Golden Knights make history by winning the Stanley Cup

The Vegas Golden Knights have done it! On Tuesday they won the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
The Golden Knights, who joined the NHL as an expansion team in 2017, became the first team to win the championship in their fifth season. They also became the second team to win the Cup after losing in the final in their inaugural season, following the St. Louis Blues in 2019.
The Golden Knights were led by their captain Mark Stone, who scored the game-winning goal in Game 6 and was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the most valuable player of the playoffs. Stone had 10 goals and 18 assists in 23 postseason games.
The Golden Knights also got stellar performances from their goaltender Robin Lehner, who posted a .934 save percentage and four shutouts in the playoffs, and their coach Peter DeBoer, who guided the team to its second Cup final appearance in three years.
The Golden Knights overcame a tough challenge from the Lightning, who were aiming to win their third consecutive Stanley Cup. The Lightning had a potent offense led by Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point and Steven Stamkos, and a solid defense anchored by Victor Hedman and Andrei Vasilevskiy.
But the Golden Knights proved to be too much for the Lightning, winning four straight games after losing the first two. They outscored the Lightning 16-8 in those four games, and held them to just one goal in each of the last three games.
The Golden Knights celebrated their historic achievement on the ice at T-Mobile Arena, where they had a loyal fan base cheering them on throughout the season. They lifted the Stanley Cup and passed it around among their teammates, coaches and staff.
They also thanked their fans for their support and dedication, saying that they could not have done it without them.
"This is for you, Vegas!" Stone shouted to the crowd. "You have been with us since day one. You are the best fans in the world. We love you!"
The Golden Knights have made history by winning the Stanley Cup. They have shown that anything is possible with hard work, teamwork and passion. They have brought glory and pride to their city and their fans.
They are the champions of hockey!
