DeSantis vs. The Rock: Who would win the hypothetical 2024 presidential race?
Henrietta Jackson
It's never too early to start speculating about the next presidential race, especially when it involves two of the most popular and polarizing figures in America today: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Hollywood superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Both men have been making headlines lately for their political ambitions and their potential appeal to voters across the ideological spectrum. DeSantis, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, has been praised by conservatives for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, his opposition to mask mandates and vaccine passports, and his tough stance on immigration and crime. He has also been criticized by liberals for his disregard for public health, his suppression of voting rights, and his alleged corruption and abuse of power.
Johnson, on the other hand, has been a beloved entertainer for decades, starring in blockbuster movies like Fast and Furious, Jumanji, and Moana. He has also been a successful businessman, producer, and philanthropist, with a net worth of over $400 million. He has expressed interest in running for president in the past, saying that he would consider it if there was enough public support. He has also been vocal about his political views, endorsing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020, and calling for unity and civility in the aftermath of the Capitol riot.
So who would win if these two titans faced off in 2024? According to a recent poll by Piplsay, Johnson would have a slight edge over DeSantis, with 46% of Americans saying they would vote for him, compared to 40% for DeSantis. The poll also found that Johnson would have more support among women, millennials, and independents, while DeSantis would have more support among men, boomers, and Republicans.
However, polls are not always reliable indicators of electoral outcomes, as we learned in 2016 and 2020. There are many factors that could influence the race, such as the state of the economy, the COVID-19 situation, the performance of the Biden administration, and the involvement of other candidates. For example, what if Trump decides to run again? What if Biden decides not to run for a second term? What if a third-party candidate emerges as a spoiler?
Of course, there is also the possibility that neither DeSantis nor Johnson will run at all. Both men have denied having any concrete plans to run for president at this point, and both have other commitments and challenges to deal with. DeSantis is up for re-election as governor in 2022, and he may face a tough challenge from Democrat Nikki Fried, the state's agriculture commissioner. Johnson is busy with his film and TV projects, including his upcoming superhero movie Black Adam and his NBC sitcom Young Rock.
But hey, this is America, where anything can happen. And as a sassy entertainment journalist who follows celebrity gossip and the latest Hollywood films, I can't help but wonder what would happen if these two charismatic leaders clashed on the national stage. Would it be a battle of brains or brawn? Would it be a comedy or a tragedy? Would it be a rock or a hard place?
Only time will tell.
